Tell us about you?
I'm a Melbourne based DJ who has been part of a music collective called The Operatives for the better part of 13 years. Having grown up listening to music from a very young age, it was a natural progression for me to become a DJ. As a kid, I recorded my own mixtapes on cassettes and recorded music video clips on VHS so I could listen to my favourite songs and learn all the dance moves. As part of The Operatives, I have been given the opportunity to perform at all the major festivals over the last decade in Melbourne, from Rainbow Serpent and Summadayze to Let Them Eat Cake and multiple Melbourne Music Week events over the years. I like creating positive vibes when I DJ. Nothing make me happier than seeing smiles on faces in the crowd, dancing their hearts out. Music has afforded me so many opportunities that I am grateful for.

What influences you?
My biggest influence as a DJ has to be DJ Marky from Sao Paulo, Brasil. As an up and coming DJ back in my youth, I remember a friend handing me a mixtape called 'Brazilian Job' - I was gobsmacked at the skills required to mix those songs and also the song selection beautifully married Brazilian flavours and with underground UK jungle/drum'n'bass. Many years later Dj Marky toured to Australia and I was lucky enough to be booked as a supporting act. Watching DJ Marky is such a joy. His energy, smile and constant dancing behind the decks makes everyone so happy and present in the moment. I aspire to bring the same energy he does when I DJ. They say to never meet your heroes but I'm glad I did. We struck up a friendship and have remained friends throughout the years.
What Motivates you as an Artist?
I wouldn't call myself an artist as such! I am surrounded by amazing artists and their talent is infectious to be around. The thing that motivates me after being in the industry for so long is discovering new music that still gives me goosebumps and the ability to share that feeling with others when I DJ. Nothing beats that feeling!
What are you working on at the moment?
I am always working. I always dig for new music, new artists, new mixtapes and creating mixtapes whether it be for Triple J or other websites and blogs. It doesn't stop. Its a healthy addiction. The Operatives are returning with an event on the 12th of December as part of Melbourne Music Week. We will be celebrating our 16th birthday (covid safe of course). It'll be a mix of live performances and DJ's. Music unites us and we cannot wait to see familiar faces and enjoy seeing artists and DJ's do their thing.
What does the theme 'United' mean to you?
