About this Event

A TED Circle is an interactive experience where we meet-up for conversations about ideas. In this present space, we’re taking it digital.

Theme: Truth Tellers

truth   /truːθ/  noun

  1. the quality or state of being true.

But what happens as we go through the journey of life and acquire beliefs which we hold to be true, at least to ourselves, but in reality are far from it? How do we bring ourselves back to the truth? And how do we help others to do so as well?

People need the truth about the world in order to grow and to thrive. Truth matters, both to us as individuals and to society as a whole. As individuals, being truthful means that we can learn about the world and from our mistakes. For society, the truth bonds us together creating trust and connection.

So what is truth - that it should have such gravity and such a central place in people’s lives - and how do we live a life in pursuit of truth?

Please watch this featured talk before the TED Circle:

3 Kinds of bias that shape your world view, by J. Marshall Shepherd

What shapes our perceptions (and misperceptions) about science? In an eye-opening talk, meteorologist J. Marshall Shepherd explains how confirmation bias, the Dunning-Kruger effect and cognitive dissonance impact what we think we know -- and shares ideas for how we can replace them with something much more powerful: knowledge.
