About this Event

July TEDxMelbourne Salon, thanks to Work Club

Host: Jon Yeo – Head of Curation, TEDxMelbourne

Can tech allow a more inclusive community?

We are on the cusp of enabling things we thought were science fiction just ten years ago. The way we enable the disabled, the way we interact with computers, space travel for non astronauts and the immersion of AI into everyday industries.

Can tech allow a more inclusive community?

Could we interact with the internet instantly and with our mind?

Connecting our brains to a hard drive could lead to some incredible possibilities.

On the medical front, we can bypass parts of our body which aren’t functioning properly and enable new mobility, giving almost equal access to common day things like phones, computers or even driving cars?

Imagine being able to access to the internet by just thinking. An instant portal of knowledge and our own history. A memory that will never fade no matter how old we are.
Join us for this interactive salon where we will unpack the opportunities and accessibility that digital devices could provide for us in the future.

Please watch this talk before the TED Salon for insights into the topic:

Tom Oxley: A brain implant that turns your thoughts into text

What if you could control digital devices using just the power of thought? That's the incredible promise behind the Stentrode -- an implantable brain-computer interface that collects and wirelessly transmits information directly from the brain, without the need for open surgery.

Neurotech entrepreneur Tom Oxley describes the intricacies of this breakthrough technology, which is currently enrolling participants in human trials, as well as how it could help restore dignity to those with disabilities -- and transform the future of communication.
